i am burnt out with programming at work. i want to do something actually immediately helpful. side project time

are there any apps/websites that do something that seems like it would be (somewhat) straightforward for someone with coding experience to make, BUT suck to actually use in practice because the site is paywalled/predatory/steals data etc?

or something that doesn't currently exist but similarly could be achievable by one person with enough time?

the more specific and esoteric the better, i have no profit motive here so if it helps even 1 person i'm down

Baby Makoto AU Doodle Dump🐣

Hiya everyone! So, I’ve been busy working on some art of this new little concept of mine. It’s been in my head for a while. Ever since I found out Makoto is in fact canonically 3 years old. And then thinking of Number One being a doting single parent to his tiny homunculus clone whom he adopts to keep safe from further experimentation and raises as his own 🥺💕

I’ve seen other people (specifically on twitter) come up with this thought as well. Makoto as a 3 year old child with Yuma as his parent. Honestly other than drawing my favorite characters being sick, drawing them as little kids also brings about a nostalgic comfort to me. Not nearly as much joy as drawing sickies brings me, but it was fun to draw the all powerful CEO as a little toddler curious about the world. He's just a little baby <3

Now I am actually a bit shy and insecure about this idea. Mainly due to people possibly confusing it with infantilization and/or age regression. This is neither of those things. It’s an AU where he just happens to be a toddler. If anything I picture little Makoto to be similar to Anya from Spy x Family. (and the fact they both share a Japanese VA makes this connection even cuter, and he's only one year younger than her x3)

Anyway, I hope you all will indulge in me as I share the art I’ve done of this tiny little homunculus. I probably won’t talk about this au or draw it often due to feeling shy about it, so I just made a full on thread of the doodles if you want to see. I keep them under a read more to prevent spam (and I know not everyone is a fan of this concept)

A little reference of sorts I made of my toddler Makoto design. (though he wears different clothing in every art I do of him lol this just connects his normal purple flowery attire) He is exactly 2 feet shorter than his usual height making him pretty small for a toddler. (but yuma is pretty short too lol and I want him to be able to carry him ;w;)

He has 2 special toys that connect to his other mask designs in the concept art. The teddy bear is his very special possession that Yuma gave him as a present, and the puppet teruteru-bozu is something he made together with Yuma when crafting on a rainy day. (he is so talented preparing him for the future when he actually develops products for the company he will run) The melon ball is based on his favorite fruit, and he has socks and a fuzzy blanket with the pattern of his mask.

In this AU, Yuma retains his Number One persona. He’s not meek apologetic and unsure, he has the confidence of the ultimate detective. But is he confident as a parent? Not in the slightest. But taking care of Makoto teaches him more about being kind and empathetic towards others, and eventually over time he becomes super protective and even at times doting towards Makoto.

Making his personality a bit more bright and pleasant, much like the kind and gentle Yuma that we all know and love. Parenthood causes the serious detective to soften up a lot. And of course this causes Makoto to love and depend on Yuma in return and never want to cause him trouble. (So he puts on a tough act a lot ;w;) However, he almost never calls Yuma dad. He just calls him Yuma. Its very rare that he refers to Yuma as his dad but this is perfectly okay by Yuma. (But when Makoto does call him dad? Yuma feels such unexplainable emotional discord that he almost cries.)

Why did I think of this AU? Because I want Makoto and pre-game Yuma to not be lonely, be happy together, and for Makoto to have a childhood. Honestly Makoto seems a bit childish and playful in canon too so...

I think I'd like him to have an actual childhood where he grows up comfortable and happy. And in the care of someone who loves him 💜

This is probably just full programmer projection but how pissed do you think Turbo was when fifth gen games started rolling into the arcade? Guy takes all this time to learn code and learn the different assembly languages like z80 and 6502 and maybe even m68k and he's probably reaching a point where he thinks he has it all figured out.

And then around the mid-ish 90s games along the same vein as Sugar Rush start coming out.

And now not only are they running on an assembly language Turbo had probably not seen before (MIPS), but they're also being programmed mostly in C, a completely different language that he will be learning for the first time without the help of any book or reference cards.

And so now he's almost worse off, because not only does he have to juggle figuring out which MIPS opcodes are the same and which opcodes are different from the previous assembly languages he learned (and handling 32 bit architecture) but now he's also gotta learn what inline embedding is and how to do it in a language he is only now encountering.

Oh to be a fly on the wall (or bug in the code lmao) when he was dealing with that.

Petty! I am in love with the Fourever You series, and I am so excited for Arthit and Daotok’s story. So I’ve been gobbling up any content they have, which is not much.

Now, *puts on monocle, follows your lead* from the pilot trailer posted in July, Arthit has two small scenes where he’s not in a uniform (as you said, they’re getting in the way) but he’s wearing black t-shirts both times Which could possibly mean he’s a black brooder, right?

(He’s also wearing one in the cover of the book, but that could be a toss up depending on the other couples’ covers and the difference in the series’ details, i.e. tonfah and typhoon are wearing black and red in their cover but that scene in the pilot they’re wearing grey and blue; hill and easter’s cover & the temple date they’re wearing red and blue (+purple/yellow) but we know that ter is a yellow yal & hill is our blue boy)

But we won’t know anything for certain until we have more content. 😭 I really wish they were already finished filming part two. I am desperate and impatient. Give us more color-coded boys in love already!

I'm here for North and Johan because I like seeing why a character is hiding his color and watching another character easily bring out the other's true color.

But I'm also here for Pond and Cooheart as Hill and (East)Ter because their acting has never not been excellent.

So I know I'll be happy to watch the second part whenever we get it which deals with the South and West component of this friend group.

However, like you wrote, the trailers gave us very little of these two couples, so all I really know is either Tonfah, the sky, or Typhoon will be blue.

And Arthit with his compass arm tattoo and sun back tattoo will be the bright sun and Daotok, the shooting star, will probably be gone in a flash.

So I was banking on Arthit being red since he is the sun, and I think their relationship will be the one to bring the heat (in the shape of a one-night stand?).

But I have no idea since these uniforms are my sworn enemy.

So, for now, I like your theory that he will be an arrogant and seductive Black Brooder because that could also mean that he has a secret, like being a player so he doesn't get his heart broken (again?).

But we shall see what his actual color, their backstory, and how spicy this relationship will be whenever we get that second part.

Which I don't think has even started filming!

Here’s a project idea: create a project that can be easily translated using other languages.

E.g. you know those beginner projects like “Build a calculator”? Yeah but do it in as many languages/frameworks as you can.

E.g. (again) I would build a calculator in:

JavaScript

HTML, CSS, JavaScript

HTML, SCSS, jQuery

Python console app

C# console app

Lua console app

WPF

Django

C# ASP.NET

You get the idea, building a singular “project” in various languages. This would be for fun, best way I believe to see how you could mend your project’s logic in the other languages syntax and concepts.

Might do this in the future, I don’t know yet 👩🏽‍💻⚡️
